Anyone who thinks we live in a pure democracy has no idea what that even means. Or how our government works. We’re a democratic republic where we vote for people to represent us. Which would work pretty well, if it weren’t for the whole lobbyist/corporate interests thing.
Talking about democracy and its merits always makes me think of two quotes:

“It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others that have been tried.” - Churchill
