This is what the sequester looks like. (h/t Congressional Progressive Caucus)
I want to be smug about this, but Harper’s been throwing around pork like it was baconalia or something.

Looks like someone rolled a critical fumble. Maybe one day the Republicans’ll start heeding Goldwater’s warnings.

Millions of people all over the USA support this Republican “logic”.
Recall All Republicans 2012!
“We have a serious budget problem, so obviously we need to pass a household rule that if Becky gets knocked up she has to keep the baby. It’s only fair.”

Anyone who thinks we live in a pure democracy has no idea what that even means. Or how our government works. We’re a democratic republic where we vote for people to represent us. Which would work pretty well, if it weren’t for the whole lobbyist/corporate interests thing.
Talking about democracy and its merits always makes me think of two quotes:
“Measures are too often decided, not according to the rules of justice and the rights of the minor party, but by the superior force of an interested and overbearing majority.” - Madison
“It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others that have been tried.” - Churchill

Sometimes in America, if you’re not a white Anglo-Saxon Protestant Straight Male, you deserve all the human rights violations you experience.

That’s not what it looks like at all.
The circus depicted is the petty cash of the stock market.
The big money comes from owning a computer that makes thousands of trades per second and only catches losses on two or three of them. Millions of dollars a minute.
The computers drive the stock market.
With their own profit motive.
The worst part is the people gambling with the supercomputers.
